&lt;P&gt;It's unlikely your number was sold, but it does sound like it could be a scam. Your number can be called by anyone, so answering them effectively confirms the line is live, and they can then retain the number to repeatedly try again. It's best not to answer calls from unknown numbers or numbers you do not recognise. You can report the numbers calling you by sending the numbers in a text to 7726.&lt;/P&gt;
