Best apps for keeping an eye on younger users

Has anyone got any experience of good apps to keep young phone users safe online? My son has just got a new phone, he's 11 and I'd like to be able to make sure that he's staying safe online. We've all got iphones so I've set up the Family approval settings on there, but any other tips and suggestions would be appreciated
