New contract promised to keep my old number

Hi. Can someone advise how to activate my new SIM card when I renewed my contract ? I have inserted the sim but it is pay as you go and it has different number. I was promised my number will stay the same .
Is this a case that it will be the old sim number but it will renew when old contract finish ? It has not been explained to me and I am confused .

Sometimes they send you a PAYG SIM card just incase you want to use it or give it to someone. If it’s an upgrade then you just continue using your old SIM card as you did before.

@MZone is spot on here, we usually send out a PAYG SIM as a backup, or to give to a friend or family member. Did you manage to get your new phone up and running with your existing SIM? Let us know if you're still needing any help with this.
