Hi @Gumdam3,

I'm really sorry to hear that this was your experience. Just to add some more reassurance, you just need to search Ireland on our Roaming Destination Checker. Click on the "View button" and you'll find the following:

"Important: There’s no charge to unlock your UK call, text, and data allowances while roaming in the Republic of Ireland. And fair usage limits do not apply while roaming there either."

That's really disappointing to hear that you weren't directed to this info by the team.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi,

I’m not sure if anyone has a definitive answer, I’m going to Dublin for work this week and read on the 3 website that Republic of Ireland is exempt from Go roam charges so I can just use my phone like I Do in the UK? However when confirming with 3 chat support and calling Customer service they tell me otherwise and suggest I have to increase my spend cap and it will cost £2 a day to go roam in Dublin? Which one is correct I’m confused.

thanks in advance for any help clearing it up

Thanks for clearing it up, would it not be possible to let management know that customer service are misinforming their customers as they say (even after they acknowledge the website states Republic of Ireland is exempt) its £2 a day to go roam

Thank you for this thread, I too have been wading through treacle with Three on this. I called in to the local store just to double check the exemption, the store manager told me I'd have to pay roaming charges. When I showed him the website exemption I'd found, he told me it was "ambiguous". (He didn't know the difference between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland). He said he couldn't find out for me, and told me not to call Three as 'they won't know either as they're in Mumbai' (direct quote). When I asked who could answer the question he just shrugged and said 'probably no-one" how do they get away with this level of utter incompetence?? This thread has reassured me, so thank you all.

The 12GB roaming limit does not apply when roaming ON 3IRL in the Republic of Ireland owing to issues of phones automatically swapping networks when driving in the Republic of Ireland near the U.K. Northern Ireland Border and vice versa. However when you arrive in the Republic of Ireland you must MANUALLY SEARCH FOR NETWORKS ON YOUR PHONE AND MANUALLY SELECT 3IRL. If you select another network roaming charges will apply so be sure to change your phone’s network search settings from automatic to manual and select 3IRL. Also there NO business connection between 3 Ireland and Vodafone Ireland unlike the U.K. if you choose Vodafone IRL you will be charged so be sure to manually select 3IRL only upon arrival into the Republic of Ireland. If you are travelling to Ireland by sea n the ferry be sure to switch off all mobile data before leaving the U.K. harbour and use the ship’s WiFi instead for the duration of the sea crossing. If you do not do this then your phone will automatically tune into Telenor Maritime - a satellite service when on open sea. If your phone is downloading updates etc in the back ground the charge is something like GBP£6 per MB and you could get a monthly bill that costs a fortune. If travelling by air it’s easy as your phone will be switched off for the duration of the flight and then it’s just a question of manually tuning it in to 3IRL on landing. Hope this helps.

my daughter took out her 3 contract a year ago and after a week she went to Dublin. She contacted 3mobile to ask if she could use her phone free over there, she was told by a web chat that she would have to pay. Months later we found out that it is free to use in Dublin.
