It worked! Chris' simple solution has solved the problem. Thank you so much. I don't know why the EAP option is not set to SIM as the default - I can't imagine that many phone users on the Tube don't have a Sim card in their phone. Now all that I need to worry about is having my phone snatched out of my hand ( currently, one phone per minute being snatched in daytime central London! ). Shall I now click on Accept as Solution?

I am trying to connect to the '3' wifi on the London Underground with my Motorola G85. I am presented with pages of boxes to fill in, most of which I don't understand. I have tried many times with the various options available but without success. I tried to take screenshots of these pages but it didn't work and, of course, now that I am not in an underground station I can't use my home computer to see the pages. Firstly, from what I see on this forum, it might be that it is not possible now to connect to '3' wifi on the Underground. Can anyone please advise?

If it is possible to connect to '3' wifi on the Underground, can anyone please let me know how to do it? This is my first time using this forum and I am unsure how to see any replies. If by email, my email address is ****@***********.co.uk.Thank you. David Dale.

Hello, David.

You should be able to connect to the underground Wifi, however it doesn't usually ask you to enter any details in order to do so. The SIM in your phone is normally used to authenticate your connection. It might be worth going into the reset menu of your phone and completing a reset of the network settings to ensure everything is as it should be, then try again when you're next at the station.

If you're still having issues, you should take some screenshots of the errors or pages that come up when trying to connect, then should help others get an understanding as to what's going on.

Pete.

When I looked at the Motorola G85 user manual it gives me the options:

Then, if you’re still experiencing problems, try resetting all network settings:
1. Go to Settings > System > Reset options.
2. To reset your network connection, tap Reset Mobile Network Settings.
3. To reset other connections, tap Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi.
Do I need to reset just Mobile Network Settings or also Bluetooth & WiFi, please. Thank you. David

Next time you're at the underground, I'd start with just trying the Mobile network, then test. If it still doesn't work, I'd do it again but with the Bluetooth and Wifi settings.

Resetting all of the network settings could be using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

By default Android will select the authenication method for connecting to be username and password (like if you connect to a work wifi in a large company) when the wifiis selected to authenticate the user via EAP.

This is the wrong setting and you will need to select SIM as the authentication method. The boxes will disappear once you do and it will use the sim card to authenticate.

Details here: https://www.three.co.uk/support/device-support/free-wifi-on-london-underground

Thank you Chris 31 for that suggestion. I had looked at the instructions in the user manual for resetting network and wifi but, when I saw the following, I got nervous and decided that I could live without wifi on the Underground ( there is now good 4G and 5G most places anyway 😞

<What gets deleted/removed when you reset
• All Wi-Fi devices and passwords set up on your phone
• All cellular/mobile settings, like preferred cellular network
• All paired Bluetooth devices set to connect with your phone>

I'll try Chris' option when I am next in a station and I shall report back to this forum. Many thanks to both of you.
