Can someone please tell me when WiFi Calling will be fixed in my area! (Tower Hamlets). Been three weeks since I discovered this issue and still no fix, I’ve heard it’s been going on for a lot longer. I can’t make or receive calls in my own flat because of poor signal - I need WiFi calling to work. What the f do I pay for if I can’t do phone calls at home. Please just give me an update on when it’s fixed

Hello there.

It's disappointing to hear you're having issues with Wifi calling. Localised issues with connectivity is something that happens on the cellular network. As Wifi calling happens purely over Wifi, the issue you're having won't be related to the Tower Hamlets area.

The Wifi calling service is working normally as far as I know, however their has been a few reports recently where Wifi calling isn't working properly. In a lot of cases, a reset of the network settings, and an update of the carrier software version (on iPhones) has resolved the issue.

Are you sure that it is Wifi calling is the issue? WiFi calling uses your main internet connection and the calls are routed via the internet while you have poor or no mobile signal. This is nothing to do with your area or mobile signal.

Firstly, it needs to be enabled on your phone as "Wifi Calling" on that particular SIM. Secondly, there needs to be a internet route to the servers, which I believe are located via this URL:

epdg.epc.mnc020.mcc234.pub.3gppnetwork.org

Some Internet Service Provider (ISP) can block this "route", and I have seen some community broadband provider and businesses blocking it. I also think that Three "geo-block" their server, so that if they see you are trying to connect from outside the UK (or traffic from a VPN) they will block the connection.

Have you recently changed your ISP? Or using a VPN?

Hi @stanw21,

Did you get a chance to check the replies to your topic, or have you found another solution in the meantime since posting?

As well as the below, I'd suggest trying your phone on Airplane/Flight mode. Very occasionally we see situations where a weak signal prevents Wi-Fi Calling from kicking in. If you try connecting to your Wi-Fi whilst the mobile signal is disabled in this way, it will help confirm if the issue is definitely that Wi-Fi calling isn't working on your home connection.

Thanks,
Jonathan
