Hi, I've been suffering with this issue for a while not until I started reading this thread was I able to find a work around. I now have an open Nat, I'm able to join party's again and my Nat in Call of duty is open.

First look at your connection details in your advanced settings under network connections on your xbox, take note of your iP address for ipv4 and your wired mac address. Then log into your router using a laptop, pc or by downloading a Web browser for your xbox. Don't use your phone your router will need to disconnect during the process and your phone cannot handle it.

Once signed in you need to go to advanced settings and click on mac binds. Here you need to set up a static address using the ip address and mac address you took note of before its fairly straightforward once you have the info. Then find your WiFi settings found on the home page, and then click on apn. Here you need to change it from auto to manual, then add a new profile. Select ipv4 from the drop down menu then add a profile name something like xboxnet or int, input '3internet' into the APN field and click apply, you'll be prompted that it needs to disconnect to apply the changes(this is where you don't want to be on your phone doing this) after a min or two it should be successful. Set to default. Make sure you restart your router and xbox once everything is complete and with any luck you'll have an open Nat now

your mtu will still not be right, try not to let it bother you it has no effect on your gaming experience, sucks but no biggy.

I am struggling to get my Xbox to work on Xbox live. Doing some googling it seems that the MTU is too low, it is 1360 and should be about 1385 to be able to work properly. I have rung three who seem to have no knowledge of what an MTU is and have sent me to the ombudsman. I have logged into the router (H122-373) and increased the MTU manually however it will not pull through onto my XBOX. I have put it in the DMZ, enabled UPNP and generally faffed with it as much as i can but the MTU on the XBOX does not change. I am assuming this is what is being sent from three and so it is something to be changed at three's end...

Does anyone else have any experience of this, or have any issues with XBOX live and home broadband 5g? or can they get it to work, cheers

Hey Lexx289,

Welcome to the Three Community,

I'm sorry to hear that you're running into issues connecting to Xbox live from your router. Is this stopping you from connecting altogether, or is the connection unstable?

Everything you've tried so far sounds good, I'd also try and connect via ethernet rather than WiFi, assuming you're not already doing so.

I'll look into this issue with MTU, and let you know if I find anything out.

To update on this, I've got word back from a specialist that MTU is determined by Three, so as you've described, changing router settings won't affect this on your devices. They've advised we haven't received any other reports of issues using Xbox live over Three broadband though.

If possible, can you confirm that this issue definitely only happens when you connect via your Three broadband? And can you let us know any more detail such as error messages, and what issues you're running into?

Thanks,
JonathanB

Mines the exact same problem my upload and download speeds are terrible I’ve not long brought the 5G hub ZTE and it’s meant to run around 100mps apparently when mine barely goes past 30mps and it won’t stay at that for even longer then a couple seconds I’ve enabled UPNP and DMZ and even tried changing ports as my NAT type on my Xbox keeps saying strict , even with the Ethernet cable connected or wireless it does not help the hub itself I have full signal apparently and have it placed on the window sill as it advises and it is just useless for any kind of gaming what so ever

That sounds really frustrating. We'll do our best to help.

It doesn't sound like you're actually getting 5G speeds, is there any issues showing on our Network Status Checker? I'm wondering if the router is connecting to 4G, or perhaps to a mast that has an outage or maintenance going on.

I know you've mentioned the router is new, has this been an issue since day 1, or did it start more recently?

Hi Jonathan

Im experiencing the exact same problem. When attempting to play online games and the demand increases, such as big lobby games, the console will freeze and either dashboard or switch off.

Hey @jordanmilly77,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I'm concerned you're more likely to have a hardware/software issue on the Xbox itself.

Getting hit to dashboard isn't super uncommon (depending on how often it happens) but I've never heard of an Xbox switching itself off unless it's overheating, or there's an electrical problem.

Even if you lost all Internet connection, most games shouldn't shutdown. Although they may do this if it's not your "home Xbox" as Xbox Live is needed to ensure you own the content. That issue is usually pretty obvious though as you get a popup mentioning about you need to be online to play this game.

Last I checked we're not aware of a widespread issue with using Xbox live over Three Broadband, but I can certainly check in about this again.

Are you able to share screenshots or quote the MTU error message so I can share this with my contacts in the Tech Team?

Thanks,
Jonathan

It sounds like the default MTU for the router is higher than the network's. Unfortunately this is locked at our end so you won't be able to change it from the settings. I have enquired about this before and it was high enough for Xbox live previously, but they may have changed the requirements for the current gaming generation. Can you share if there's any error showing relating to MTU, or if you've been advised by Microsoft that the MTU is an issue?

Did you switch to the Zyxel from another Three router, or join Three moving from another provider? Just to understand if this is definitely a device issue, or possibly down to network coverage/faults?

Thanks,
Jonathan

HI Jonathan,

I can confirm this is a 3 5G issue with this specific router and not an individual one. For context my brother and I both used the original 5G router (not the Zyxel one) in our own place when we lived together. When we moved out I took the box and contract with me and set up in my new place with no issues. He got a new 3 5G contract at a different address and consistently suffered from the same issue as everyone above. We used to think it was a console issue but then only 2 days ago I was given the opportunity to get the latest hub (the Zyxel) and as soon as I got it I had the exact same pattern and issue. Xbox diagnostics on the console tell us both it is an MTU issue. I have tried looking at the MTU on the hub and it says its 1500 but on the console it says its not sufficient. It is something to do with this new hub that is limiting everyone's ability to play games in this forum and for probably many more people.

I can confirm this is specifically a 3 5G issue and specifically this brand of Hub because I had no issues with this until the moment I switched to this one.

Please can this be resolved or looked into ASAP. It sounds like an oversight on someones part since the other older hubs function and this one doesn't.

Many thanks

Hi everyone. I'd also like to flag this issue. I recently moved to an area with no fixed broadband so initially used a TP-Link MR-600 with an EE SIM and had no issues connecting to Xbox live but the speed was very poor. I then changed to Three 5g using the ZTE MC801A. My speed is now fantastic but I have the MTU issue as reported by everyone else. I have tried the Console wired to the router, connected to wireless, using the router in bridged mode with my Google Wifi mesh and have had no luck. I can reconnect to the TP-Link with the EE sim and the MTU issue disappears. Offering this information as I have eliminated as many variables as possible and this appears to be for Three to resolve.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in updates on this one. As I mentioned previously MTU is usually determined by the network, but I've made an assumption that we're talking about increasing this. The Xbox(es) are displaying an MTU of 1360 where the network/router is defaulting to 1500. So it may be more down to the mismatch in values.

<LI-MESSAGE title="Zyxel NR5103E" uid="9268" url="https://community.three.co.uk/t5/Broadband/Zyxel-NR5103E/m-p/9268#U9268" discussion_style_icon_css="lia-mention-container-editor-message lia-img-icon-forum-thread lia-fa-icon lia-fa-forum lia-fa-thread lia-fa"></LI-MESSAGE> describes some similar issues with PS5 functionality, so it may well be a similar issue.

@crypt0ninja has helpfully shared on that thread some info around lowering MTU and also switching to IPv4 only that may help here.

Can anyone affected give these a go, and let me know if it improves your Xbox live connections?

I'm also feeding this issue back internally within Three to see if we can get a better idea of what's happening on our end, but it'll really help if I can get feedback as to whether these settings changes help.

Thanks,
JonathanB

HI Jonathan,

Unfortunately no fix for me, I only have IPV4 as an option and when I changed the MTU value it still tells me on the xbox that the MTU limit isn't high enough. It's odd that its only happening with the Zyxel router specifically.

Thanks,

Hector

Hi @hhlondon97,

I'm seeing a few users mentioning issues with PS5 connections and I'm wondering if it's a similar issue.

The thread<LI-MESSAGE title="PlayStation network won’t sign in on hub" uid="10128" url="https://community.three.co.uk/t5/Network/PlayStation-network-won-t-sign-in-on-hub/m-p/10128#U10128" discussion_style_icon_css="lia-mention-container-editor-message lia-img-icon-forum-thread lia-fa-icon lia-fa-forum lia-fa-thread lia-fa"></LI-MESSAGE> has a potential solution with changing the APN settings. Can you, and anyone else running into these issues, have a look and see if the settings changes listed there have any effect?

I'm still awaiting feedback on this issue but hopefully there'll be news or a solution soon.

Thanks,
JonathanB

Hi Jonathan,

No that hasn't worked either.

Still getting the same error on just the xbox as I had no issues logging in and seems to be a different issue.

Thanks,
