It’s seems that today’s issues were caused by a power failure at a data server centre. Why there wasn’t a back up power supply is something for Three to mull over.

I would be very surprised if there was no power backup. I used to work in the telecoms industry and I can't remember a critical site without a generator or a huge pile of batteries.

They may or may not have back ups and you obviously know more than me. I was just assuming (dangerous I know) given the length of time the network was having issues that they didn’t. Either way apart from me STILL regularly having to toggle flight mode on and off to make a call 🤷‍♂️all seems ok for now.🤞

I did some work for offshore oil platforms and they had a huge power backup which they split to give 24, 48 or 96 hours of backup depending upon the importance of the equipment. Most telecom base station sites had battery back. Where we provided server farms they all had standby systems. It will be interesting if 3 give more details but it is not unheard of for large server farms to suffer backup power issues. Where backup power was not supplied we often had to provide 200Kgs of UPS.

3 have not signed up to the OFCOM compensation scheme. I wonder if they did a risk assessment and that pin-pointed failure points in their systems and this is why they have not signed up.

I doubt we’ll hear anything more from them only the apology route.I saw your post yesterday about Ofcom and there’s probably more than a grain of truth in what you say.
