Slow Xbox gaming speeds

Been using three 5g home broadband for a few years now, had no problems whatsoever until this week.

My download speeds are as fast as ever. Over 600mbps, but when my son is gaming on his Xbox playing call of duty, there's constant lag which has never happened before.

I've tried connecting directly through the router using an ethernet, and the issue is still there.

However, if I tether from my mobile phone (also three 5g) the issue disappears.

What's causing this, has three changed anything their end?

Anything I can do my end?

Well I managed to fix it myself.

Changed the APN from 3intenet to three.co.uk

Hope it lasts

Was your issue just your sons Xbox?

I've been having this same issue with constant stuttering and high ping on all games but on PC. Everything else is working fine.

Hi @theabstar,

We've seen a few posts relating to high ping and latency on gaming the last few days so we've raised feedback. Does the APN suggestion help in your case? I've also noticed that another community member suggested setting their router to connect over 4G and this helped over here: Latency issues (gaming and general)

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, unfortunately these solutions have not worked yet. I noticed this issue first occur on the 24th April and have been trying to figure out what it could be since then and have come to it being something to do with the network. I did speak to someone yesterday who also said they would raise an issue.

Thanks for updating us @theabstar. In terms of a potential network issue, have you been able to check our Network Status Checker? This may help indicate if there's any local issues we're working on that could affect the performance of your Broadband.

Quite a few other posters have mentioned that speeds are good, but it's specifically ping/lag with gaming, is that the case with you too, what sort of speeds are you picking up when you test?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Yes, unfortunately no known issues in the area. Using Ookla I'm getting 371.61Mbps download (normally 500+) and 42.49Mbps upload (normally 60+).... My download latency is anywhere between 40-200 and my upload latency is constantly 700+ at the moment.

Browsing and watching videos are completely fine but any game I try to play is where the issue of ping/latency occurs.

Hello.

Are you getting any packet loss in your testing?

Hi,

I am getting packet loss constantly. Either playing games or when testing.

That's likely where spikes in latency would come from. If the packet loss issue can be resolved, it should hopefully address the latency issues.

Have you recently moved the hub or things around it? Or do you have the ability to place the hub else where in the house? Near a window is usually good, and you might want to try and window at a different spot in the house as well as one side is usually better than the other.

Pete.
