Pictures have power, there’s no doubt about it. And with tech advancements, most of us are now carrying around incredible cameras in our pockets. But what makes the difference between a stunning portrait or an overexposed selfie? Between an accurate action shot and a just-missed-it blur?

We’d love to hear your tips and tricks for getting the best shot so post them in the comments below. You can also include the snaps you’re most proud of to show off your efforts - we’ll moderate as quick as we can to approve the pictures. When we’re done, we should have a handy how-to guide and bonus community photo album.

In exchange, and to celebrate the newest additions to the Google Pixel family, we’ll give a brand-new Google Pixel 7 to one lucky commenter. With powerful Pixel Camera features like Real Tone and Cinematic Blur, the Google Pixel 7 is a photography powerhouse and we can’t wait to see the beautiful images it can capture.

**Prize draw now closed**

You’ll be automatically entered into our prize draw when you post a comment. The prize draw will close at 23:59 on 31 October 2022 and no comments will be counted after that. One winner will be randomly selected on 02 November 2022 from all eligible entries.

We’ll drop the winner a Private Message between 4 and 7 November and we’ll announce the winner by their username once they have accepted their prize, by updating this post. To ensure you receive notice of Private Messages, please verify your email address after registration. If you do not wish to enter this prize draw, do not comment on this thread

Tip 1 If the image can be taken outside in the day using natural light do so, it will always give best results.

Tip 2 Whilst additional apps to capture images are available, it is best to use the camera app provided with phone. I have found that this is the only way to access all the options and lens on your device.

Tip 3 if you see a little flower icon in your camera app always press this before taking any close up shots. This icon is macro mode and when selected it will look fuzzy until you move close to say a flower this is how you take fantastic upclose macro shots !

My best tip for taking photos (especially selfies), is to make use of the golden hour. This means taking the photos within an hour of sunrise or sunset, the golden light will make any photo look fantastic.

I use the 0.5 zoom, I could use the latest camera to create some stop-start short videos that are currently only alive in my imagination at this point

I have a full-size camera with lenses that cost more than my phone so phone is for emergency use only. However, I do use the camera with Google Lens to identify plants in the garden, and when out walking, although the accuracy of Lens is often amusing.

Hi @StephR it says in the terms and conditions that you must verify email to receive PM and enter the competition. It's been over 24 hours now and I haven't had an email to verify ?

Thanks.

There are many tips and tricks available to use to get the best photo. Grid lines are pretty good as they allow you to get the perfect straight image. In addition to this, if you are taking a picture of a person/animal, focus mode would be the best as it blurs the background focussing only on the person/animal to give the best portrait image.

Using Snapseed for editing your photos can boost colours etc, making your photos pop more

I'd love to be entered in to the draw please. My top tip for any camera on any device is always use the grid lines on the display. It helps to frame the picture properly and using the rule of thirds gives the subject and the background the proper balance and focus. Just my little tip
