Data roaming

I am going to Germany for a 4 week holiday. What is my best option if I want data? Presuming I will use data every day?

I find the offers and packages confusing

Hi @NeilAmos,

Sorry for any confusion. If you check out our Roaming Destination Checker then you can look up where you're going and find the relevant info depending on whether you're using Pay Monthly, PAYG, or Mobile Broadband.

If you're still not too sure, please let us know which type of plan you have, and we might be able to give more advice.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Thanks for the reply. My contract is 150mb lite airtime. the way I understand it is I can use data in Germany but it will cost me £2 a day for each day I use it. I also have to adjust my spend cap accordingly. The other option is to buy a data passport that could save me £4 using a 14 day data passport? Am I on the right track?

to be honest I don’t know why I am still with Three. When I am renewing my contract I need a better option for data abroad as I do have about 5 European trips per year.

Hey @NeilAmos,

I think you were looking at the 14-day Go Roam in Europe Pass which is what we'd recommend for most customers. It'll be cheaper in comparison to paying the daily roaming charge.

There's a similar add on called "Data Passport" which gives Unlimited data for £5 per day, but this is only useful for customers who'll be using more than 12GB per billing month fair use policy.

When you're eligible to renew, please check in with the team, as we can look at options with inclusive roaming which sound like they'll be a good option if you're travelling frequently. There's more info here: Go Roam is changing…

Thanks,
Jonathan

Thanks again Jonathan. Just one final question.

if I don’t buy a data passport and just turn in data roaming, do I need to do anything else to set up? Will I just be able to use data? I know that there is said usage and although I don’t really know what this is, I can understand that I should just be careful how much data I use.

The data passport will save me £4 for a 14 day period which isn’t worth it when considering that the data passport information is not clear at all or intuitive. The anxiety trying to set it up is not worth £4!

good to know things are changing

Hi @NeilAmos,

No worries at all. Yeah you can simply pay the £2 Daily Roaming Charge, this is automatic and activates when you use your allowances i.e. make a call, send a text, or use some data whilst abroad.

If you have a spend limit set, you just need to make sure this is high enough to allow the Daily Roaming Charge. You can check and manage your spend cap amount by logging into My3 on our main website, or the Three App.

Thanks,
Jonathan
