I'm going on hol. Only intend ti use wiFi from hotels with fone in airoplane mode.
However if I need to use my fone do I have to pre puirchase roaming option or can I pay retrospectively?

Hi there @Amosx,
Welcome to the Three Community, and I hope you're looking forward to your travels 😀.
Roaming costs will vary, depending on your travel and which plan you have.
If you pop your location and plan details into our handy Roaming page, this will help to clarify any charges to use all or some of your allowances.
Some plans may have some daily roaming passes or roaming built in, but this would show in your allowances online.
If you're a Pay Monthly user and if a daily charge of £2/£5/£7 applies, this will be added to your next bill. You would need to make sure your spend cap is set high enough to allow for daily charges, and that roaming is activated on your device.
If the spend cap is too low to allow the daily charges, it wouldn't be possible to roam.
You can also pre-purchase roaming passes for 3, 7, or 14 days. This can help you save on the cost per day if you're travelling for a bit longer.
Pay as You Go users can use a portion of their data, depending on which Data Pack is active.
Thanks,
Michael

Hello.
If you purchase the passes and choose not to use them, yeah you will have purchased them for nothing.
If you don't buy the passes and connect your phone to the roaming network, you are only charged the daily charge for the days you actually use the network there.
No, you don't receive a rebate for not using the UK network for 2 weeks. Just the same as if you were to turn your phone off at night each night, you wouldn't receive a rebate for the 8 hours per night each night. Your line rental is an agreed minimum amount for an agreed minimum term.
Pete.

Thank you for your response. I am travelling to Taiwan.
If I understand corectly, I can purchase a 3 day roam for £17.50 but if I don't use my fone i.e. I only use wifi and leave fone in airplane mode I will have spent £17.50 for nothing. Is this correct?
Alternatively if I don't purchase a roam package but switch my fone on while I am away for 2 weeks then I will be charged £7 X 14 = £98. Is this correct.
Seems a lot of money to spend on potentially nothing at all.
Also if I am not logging on to the UK network for 2 weeks then if the above is correct I should receive a rebate of half of my monthly bill surely?
Am I missing something?
Kind regards
Amosx
