We have no mobile signal at home but use wifi calling. Neither my wife nor I received today's UK Government Emergency Alert on our phones. Why not?

Hi @Cliff,
Sorry to hear that you're only able to connect via Wi-Fi at home. I've had a look into this, and @Anonymous and @jr0 are correct. The alert is broadcast directly from masts, and so if you're out of coverage, or on Wi-Fi only you won't receive these. More info here: http://www.gov.uk/alerts/how-alerts-work
Thanks,
Jonathan

Hello.
That's strange. I have no idea what would have caused it not to come through. There has been some indications that a very small number of phone users regardless of what network they are on didn't get it, but I guess that's why they are testing it, to find and iron out any issues or bugs with the implementation.
Pete.

Thanks for the response, however I can't find any definitive statement about what happens with wifi calling.

Just my tuppence-worth, but if you don't have cellular/radio signal at all it is like having your handset turned off or on airplane mode and therefore you won't receive the alerts.
There is only a remark @Anonymous 's link, that makes me think what I said above is "logical"
I quote
"Alerts are sent using broadcast technology and use the nearest cell towers to the affected area."
