Phishing telephone call from 3

3user
Fledgling

I was contacted today by a person purporting to be from 3 (my service provider ) on telephone number 020 **** ****. They asked for my email address after stating that I need an updated sim to work on the 5G network. They then sent a request to change my 3 account password after giving me a password of “adminthree33” to enter in its stead.

I hung up on them and did not change my password but feel that I need to make people aware of the possible scam/phishing call.

I was just called on a 0330 5510690 number say they were 3 and would half my bill but I needed to change my password for 24hrs so I hung up thinking it was a scam

I have also just received one of these calls. They actually sent me a link to access my email. Which I refused to accept. Then they asked for money. Then tried to sell me another device to me after me stating I had a budget that had been reached. The man was quite abrupt when I questioned him on numerous things. Then even proceeded to tell me I had miss heard which I’m 100% sure I didn’t. I’ve been with this company years. But I’m not considering leaving. I’ve had nothing but issues with calls, messages and internet over the past year.

Hello @Carly13,

Thanks for sharing that this happened.

Please report this number - You can send a text to 7726 with the message CALL, followed by the number that called you. This will make sure it is flagged correctly.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had these service issues.

Please pop your postcode into the Coverage and Network Status Checker to see if any known issues or planned work is impacting you.

I'd recommend chatting with Customer Services if this doesn't shed any light on the problems you've been having, and they'll run some extra checks and discuss options for your account.

Thanks,
Michael

You did the right thing, it sounds like it was most definitely a scam.

Pete.

Hi @3user,

Thanks for helping raise awareness about this, this certainly does sound like a fraudster as no staff member should ever know or prompt what your My3 password should be. We also don't call from 020 numbers, we have to hide these as in most cases they're being "spoofed" and the scammers are using software to present a UK landline or mobile number, but this could be a real number with no connection to the scammer.

Here's a link to more guidance on scams, spam, and fraud, including how to report them.

Thanks,
Jonathan
