There has been a lot of threads all over the forum regarding the '3internet' APN not working correctly. I wanted to compile a list of problems that customers have seen from it not working correctly. The main issue seems to be that when a router is configured to use the '3internet' APN is assigned a private IP address instead of the public IP it is supposed to assign. This leads to problems as the internet connection is being NAT'ed (using Carrier Grade Network Address Translation - CG-NAT) and the shared public IP seems to change very rapidly. The following is a list of problems people have reported, please add your experiences if you have noticed different:
- Router is fire-walled from the internet and can't receive incoming traffic/connections, leaving no way to port forward or DMZ local network devices.
- Voice over Internet (VoIP) services don't work properly, Sipgate in my case
- Cloud services like Dropbox, CCTV, solar, inverters, car chargers, etc don't work correctly
- Notifications on Android phones (connecting via the WiFi) are delayed and in some cases blocked
- Online banking (Santander in my case) won't let me stay logged in
- distributed/cloud type apps like Telegram, Signal, etc have constant connection problems
- online games report strict NAT'ed connection or just fail to connect to servers
