Eero flat cable length

I’ve recently taken delivery of the outdoor hub which connects to the eero 6 but find that the flat cable between the indoor Wi-Fi router and the hub is too short. I live on a boat and it’s a steel construction so routing cables is difficult. I want site the hub on a wooden mast or wood/ glass wheelhouse but the flat cable won’t allow me to select a position to get the best signal. Any way of changing the cable or extending it?

A 'normal' cable would be fine except for the fact that the supplied one has a seal into the unit to make it weatherproof. The simplest solution is to use the original plus a connector as described by MymsMan, then any old cable will do for the rest of it. Just make sure the connector is not exposed to the elements. If that's unavoidable then taping it up in a small plastic bag might work.

You can buy flat ethernet cables in lengths up to 30m - just google e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gulaey-Ethernet-Internet-High-Speed-Console/dp/B08XBYW82B/  and you can connect length of cable together with ethernet connectors e.g. https://www.toolstation.com/cat5e-utp-rj45-coupler/p89915 or, depending on location, you could use the supplied power injector as the connector,  Either way make sure it is protected from water and weather.

I am not qualified to know the advantages of twisted pair versus flat ethernet cables

Do you have steel bulkheads within the boat?  They could interfere with the internal wifi signal and you might need multiple eeros (or similar) connected by cable to achieve bow to stern wifi coverage

Hi thanks for the response but I have a concern that since the existing cable is also power over Ethernet will I need a specific type of connector ?

No, it just uses standard ethernet plugs
