4G MiFi one month plan

Peacefully
Fledgling

I'm thinking of getting a 4G MiFi on a one month plan but I just want to check I've properly understood how the plan works.

Am I right in thinking I can pay for one month at a time in the same way that I would buy a data pack for my phone?

For example, could I use it for a month while I go travelling, then not use it (and not pay anything) for a couple of months while I stay with relatives, then just pay for another month as and when I need it?

Many thanks in advance 🙏

No worries Rob, glad I could help!

Data only SIM plans tend to have the best results with Broadband devices like MiFi, Routers, and Tablets, however I'm not aware of anything that would actively stop you from using a Pay Monthly plan with a Voice allowance, or a PAYG SIM with one of these.

I should state we can't always guarantee the level of tech support we can provide if you use a SIM plan with a device it isn't intended for, but some customers do choose to buy 3rd party MiFi devices, or reuse old or 2nd hand ones, and my impression is that these tend to work fine as long as the device is originally from Three UK, or unlocked to all networks.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hey Peacefully,

Welcome to the Three Community!

We're excited to hear you're looking to join the family. 1 month rolling contract means you don't have an early termination fee to pay when you leave. This means that you're not tied into a 24 month contract, the bill would be taken every month this line is active for. You wouldn't be able to pay when you like as this still is a contract not like Pay As You Go.

Hope this clears things up a little.

Maxine

Hi Maxine,

Thank you for explaining that.

So, if I used it for 6 months and then cancelled the contract, would I have to pay the upfront fee again (currently £39) to start using it again?

And how much is the early termination fee for a 24 month contract?

Hi @Peacefully,

We don't reactivate a plan once cancelled, but if you cancel the SIM plan you could take out a new SIM only deal in the future and use it with the same MiFi device*. SIM only plans don't have an upfront fee, so you'd only need to look at this if you were ordering a new device.

Early Termination Fees are based on the remaining time in the term. Essentially you'd pay 97% of what's left towards the remaining months charges, so we wouldn't recommend taking out a 24 month plan if you're not intending on keeping it for the minimum term.

*Our 5G Home Broadband plans work differently, if you cancel a Home Broadband plan you do need to return the hub back to Three. MiFi devices are yours to keep unless you cancel in the 14 day return period.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi @JonathanB

Thanks for explaining that. It's very useful info.

When you say "if you cancel the SIM plan you could take out a new SIM only deal in the future and use it with the same MiFi device", does that mean a Pay Monthly Data Only SIM deal?

Presumably a PAYG SIM with a data pack wouldn't work with the MiFi device?

Many thanks

Rob
