I was awaiting a call from NHS 24 (a call back) they said they tried to phone but it went straight to answering machine. How do I find out if I have call barring? It is very strange as this isn’t the first time this has happened. I was sitting with my phone in my hand and the phone didn’t ring!

This sometimes happens if there's congestion on local network, and is outside user's control.

A couple of thoughts. If you have an iPhone there’s a choice in the settings to “silence unknown callers”. Android must have a similar feature. Check to make sure that’s not turned on or any numbers that are either withheld or not in your contacts or recent calls list will go straight to voicemail. Also check you haven’t got some sort of call divert set up, To the best of my knowledge (not 100% sure) Three don’t provide user controlled barring so that’s not an issue. The other possibility is poor signal which would also cause the call to go to voicemail.
A few ideas for you to ponder on.
