I have a Google Pixel 8 and my wife has a Pixel 6 both running Android 16.
We have been abroad for a month and used the extended absence greeting on 3 voicemail.
Since returning to the UK and changing back to our standard voicemail settings, callers are no longer hearing our personalised greeting.
Instead they hear a message in an American accent saying "The person you are calling is not available. Please leave a message". Any message they leave is then converted by speech to text and appears as a pop-up on the phone.
How do I turn this "feature" off and revert to the previous voicemail system with callers hearing personalised greetings and with messages accessible via a long press of the 1 key in the phone app?

Problem solved. Latest Google Phone app decided to turn this "feature" on without asking.
Have now disabled the "Take a Message" function in the settings of the phone app.

Glad to hear you figured this out. And thanks for updating the Community with the solution, hopefully this goes on to help others too.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Hello
How do you change this setting as I can't find it on my pixel 9 pro XL and I have the same issue.
Thanks

Hi @Savill,
Open your phone app, then expand the menu in the top left next to the "Search contacts" bar, choose "settings", then take a message should be a few options down.
Thanks,
Jonathan
