Three 5G hub poor upload speed - PR5 postcode area (Preston, Lancs)

I've recently received the Three 5G hub as we're going to pull away from Virgin Media after being with them since 2006 (sick of paying £100 a month for services we simply don't use)

The Three 5G hub is superb; the download speeds are averaging anywhere between 300 Mbps and 800 Mbps at times; crazy-fast! But the upload speed (by Speedtest) is, at best, 6Mbps, but averages less than 2 on most tests...)

What gives?! Has it always been poor, or is it simply what's the norm etc?

Hello, Dan.

Download and upload speeds can vary, but generally upload has always been considerably slower than download. Things should run normally though.

Pete.

Thanks

The 5G connection via my S24 Ultra and Z Fold 7 is just as strong, but with much better upload speeds, closer to 10-12Mbps

This is what I can't understand

Hey @DanB1978,

As Pete noted it's not a parallel connection so you wouldn't see or generally need an exceptionally high upload for consumer purposes.

I'd recommend to experiment with the router's positioning. It may be that you're not getting the best coverage or some interference if the speeds are fluctuating a lot. You'll generally get the strongest 5G at higher places and especially on windowsills, or near a window.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Cheers Jonathan

The download speed is spot on; absolutely flies at times and puts VM to shame; just the slow upload speeds I've noticed, more so when I've had to send large attachments via email (PDF portfolios etc that can be close to 1GB, if not more at times)

Fortunately they're far and few between

Next job is to attach my Deco MESH system and get the network spread properly around the house
