Welcome to the Three Community.
I'm with @Paddiewack on this. It sounds like a hardware issue. A further way to test this is by making a call on other Apps such as Messenger or WhatsApp etc, if the problem is the same on both Voice calls and Apps, this would confirm it's the actual mic, as opposed to your network connection.
You could try a factory reset, which hopefully won't be too disruptive if it's a new phone, just in case it's a software problem. If this doesn't help then if we supplied the phone, please get in touch, or if you bought it elsewhere contact the place of purchase.
