Hello, Luk.
It's disappointing to hear that you're having to claim on your insurance. I know how frustrating it can be when something happens to your phone.
It sounds like the team might be asking you for proof of purchase because the insurance company are wanting the phone to be blacklisted. If that's the case, and you purchased you phone from Google, Google provide an invoice with the IMEI number on it, labelled as 'Serial Number'. You can access that on store.google.com, then once logged in, click the circle on the top right, then head to orders. Find your order, then click 'View or Edit'. Here is your invoice for the order, including the IMEI number.
You can also choose to speak to google about the order and once you're speaking to the team, you can get them to send you a copy of the invoice by email.
Pete.
