Voicemail setup won't record my name

I am trying to set up my voicemail by calling 123 and following the steps. I set up my pin, no problem. When it asks me to say my name I wait for the beep, say my name, press hash and it says "Your name has not been recorded" then asks me to try again. I try a few more times then it hangs up on me.

I have tried customer services and been put through to second line support who were absolutely useless and just kept reading the instructions to me and telling me I must be doing it wrong.

Do you have a very short name perhaps? I found out yesterday I was able to get around it as long as I recorded for a while (I actually just recorded silence).  The cut-off should be 2 seconds I think, but in practice it seems longer than that.

In the absence of a fix for this is there any way I can access the voicemails that are sitting in my mailbox?

Omg @restfuldeath thank you, you've resolved this. I have a one syllable name. I have now successfully recorded my name with a one second silence, and it works.

It sounds weird on my greeting - a system generated "the person you are calling..." would be infinitely better than the shoddy workaround I'm now stuck with, but let that be a user to Three's user experience team, if such a thing exists.

I've been consistently gaslighted by Three's customer services team into thinking this must be down to my inability to follow instructions. It feels somewhat ironic that this issue was solved by a fellow customer and not by Three, but I thank you nonetheless.

Very good suggestion @restfuldeath, I believe if the system thinks the recording is silent, that it's not accepted, so it's maybe not picking up enough sound when it's rejecting this. Maybe there was enough ambient noise in your case? You don't need to record your real name of course, but it does need to capture some level of sound even if it's background noise, music etc.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi there,

I've tested recording a name greeting just now, and we don't seem to have any widespread reports of issues doing so. Are you still experiencing the same issue?

Thanks,
Jonathan
