Is it ok to use the ZTE hub in bridge mode?

The settings on the hub allow it to be placed into bridge mode, however, I believe that this is a cellular bridge which is different. The hub has one LAN port that according to the router specs can be used as a LAN TO WAN connection enabling one device to connect through the ZTE to the internet. When the ZTE is in bridge mode it passes through the Three assigned WAN IP to the router that's set up for a WAN connection. The bridge mode feature has not been blocked by Three and you can easily make the changes, however, I'm unsure if this is allowed under the home broadband contract. I will still be using the ZTE supplied hub (bridge mode), however, my other router has quality of service features which I would like to use.

I wasn't aware the ZTE router had this function on it. Maybe it was added in a firmware update, or perhaps it just slipped by me. 

In any case, it's not an issue for you to go ahead and use features like bridge mode to expand your local network. This will allow you to use features like QoS, as well as other features your own hardware may offer.

I have tried bridge mode ( to deco mesh internet) hoping it would stop the internet drops with the ZTE modem.

Sadly it did not still getting 2-3 a day which require a modem restart

Hi @stevekn,

I'm not sure if it'll directly affect the issue you've mentioned but some users previously reported some issues using bridge mode. @Wintermute advised setting a manual APN profile and this seemed to help on the thread ZTE MC801A B12 update : Bridge mode broken :

"Go to the APN settings - Settings -> Connection Settings -> APN

Add a new manual APN with the following parameters...

PDP Type: IPv4
Profile Name: Anything except '3internet'
APN: 3internet
Authentication: None

Click set as default, reboot your ZTE MC801A"

Let me know if that seems to help with the disconnections

what ever I do i'm still getting 2 or 3 internet drops a day, from the supplied ZTE modem ( with good 5G signal) like many other people.

The modem dashboard still show a small upload but 0.0 download !

A  (tedious ) modem re-start immediately re-connect the internet.

It is still not fit for purpose.

Hi

i am trying to connect a deco mesh Wi-Fi system at home. I order to connect to tge router I need VLAN and PPPoE details. Do you know how I locate them as I tried with Three technical chat yesterday and they told me to go to my local Three store and they can not help me.

Hi @IanT,

I had a check with a specialist and these settings shouldn't be necessary. From what I understand you want to put your router into bridge mode, or IP passthrough so that it acts as a modem only.

After this any other set up info would be from deco, assuming they don't work automatically when you ethernet the main mesh point to the Three router.

Johnathon, some more information:

A couple of weeks ago there were "network problems" on Three, many were unable to make voice calls. At this time, although often there were low data download speeds, and my signal level dropped to -115dB ( one light on modem). My broadband modem stayed connected to the internet. I did not get any drops for several days. 

Once the network was "fixed" and signal strength is now up to 3 lights, I am now getting several drops per day ( with immediate re-connects, once I have restarted the ZTE broadband modem). This makes on-line gaming , streaming, zoom calls, downloads etc etc unreliable.

If I now look at three stars for my post code I get "There is, at times, heavy usage in this local area,As a result, you may experience varying data speeds depending on how many customers are connecting to our network via your closest mast." 

Is the reason for the drops that the network cant cope with the number/traffic and is deliberately dropping people off ?  Are their figures for the 

Since no hardware/firmware faults have been found with the modem by Three or ZTE, it seems a likely scenario, what are your thoughts ?
