Hi,I currently have the ZTE mf286 d, on 4G, with isp speeds between 75 and 80,when I enable my VPN and connect to an abundance of servers worldwide my internet speed can vary be 91 and 129 pending on server used and network usage,if I hard wire even better, just interested to know the reason for speed gain with an enabled VPN as the norm for a VPN connection is generally a reduction in speed, thankyou

Hi again,no drop in speed just constant higher speeds with VPN enabled, tested with 4 different speed test platforms and the same results,WiFi and ethernet,so really I am very happy with this situation as no buffering in any situation on a multitude of android devices,I was just inquisitive, spoke to VPN provider and they said this depends on server activity and route of signal, also same results on an alternative 4G router, don't let the party stop,I've only ever had one issue in 2 years with WiFi, but that was down to local server upgrade work, thing is if I take the 5G upgrade with the outside aerial,I'm frightened that I won't benefit from any significant speed increase or maybe less than what I'm getting, any how lots to think about as my contract comes to an end on 31st January, thankyou so much for your reply and imput

Hello, Haleflyer.
I'm not entirely sure what would be causing the speed difference, but I've had similar experiences in the past. I use a VPN often, and I find it to be quite random, sometimes it will see me get a small speed boost, sometimes it'll see me drop in speed, other times it'll slow me down.
Could be related to the protocol in use, the route, server tested, it'd be hard to know for sure. If you think there's an issue of some kind, it might be worth checking in with the Home Broadband team. You might also find advice elsewhere here on Community.
Pete.

hi Pete,I normally use wire guard and ikev2 if I've spelt it right as they are by far the fastest protocol's on my service
