Three New Outdoor 5G Router and #xisting Mesh

The new Three Outdoor 5g hub comes with an Eero for WiFi that you connect via a network cable. I already have a good quality mesh system at home.  Can I connect the Three Outdoor 5g Hub to my own mesh with the network cable directly, or do you have to use the Eero? (If I have to use the Eero then I would need to buy other Eero units to get WiFi through the whole house.)

Hey there.

You don't have to use the Eero. You can use your own mesh system in its place if you prefer.

Pete.

Hi I've got the outdoor hub arriving soon. I've currently got the Zyxel hub/router with a Deco x60/x50 mesh system. Rather than turn off the WiFi on the Zyxel, I renamed it "3 5g" which covers the front of my house . I then put my Deco into access point mode and named the Deco "Three 5g" which covers the rest of the house and rear garden. I plan to do the same again with the outdoor hub as this has worked very well for me... HTH, David.

Fledgling

Hi Pete. Do you know if it’s plug and play with the non Eero router? I have an asus mesh setup already which used to plug into my virgin modem so assuming the hub is the modem, then the asus just replaces the Eero

Hi, I recently received my outdoor hub and wanted to use it with my existing Deco mesh system. My old setup was the using the Zyxel indoor hub as my router and my Deco was setup in access mode. After reading advice on here I thought I'd try and use my Deco as my router. I got the outdoor hub setup and plugged the cable from the poe injector directly into my Deco. I had forgotten to switch the Deco from access point mode to router mode but it automatically switched itself back into router mode. This outdoor hub works really well although my ping and upload/download speeds are very similar to my old indoor hub, possibly because I'm within about 100m of the nearest Three 5g mast. For me it's a neat upgrade and by being a existing customer and going through Three directly rather than ordering  online I'm now paying £16.80pm for the 1st year as opposed to the online price of   £21. Win, win for me👍🏻

Hi @Bob8,

We can't give guarantees  on advice about hardware we haven't supplied, but I don't see any reason why the Asus wouldn't work this way. If you do decide to test this out, please let the Community know how it goes.

Thanks,
Jonathan
