Bogus call on a hacked number

Fledgling

Hello, today I had a call from a woman who said her mother had received a call from my number wanting her to make a payment to a PayPal account. It seems as though my number has been hacked/cloned to make this bogus call.

Your number does not need to be hacked or cloned. The crims have software that allows them to make it appear that your number is being used. They rely on the person being called to give the requested details during the call. The person who called you had their whits about them. I don't think you need to panic.

That's right, it's sometimes referred to as "spoofing". In most cases the number is picked at random, they'll have just used a UK 07 number to make things look more legitimate (most scams of this nature are operated from abroad).

@longlens, customer services can help check when there's been any access to your Three account if you've any concerns about this though. Our contact us page has info on how to get in touch by phone or chat.

Thanks,
JonathanB
