To purchase a local SIM card in Phils (and increasingly elsewhere) you need to register a local address and you can only get a residency card after 3 months. This is for security tracking and the elimination of nefarious burner phones.

You could try a cooperative Sari-Sari and they may register for you.

Officially (search) there are international roaming services that are cheaper than three but more a convenience than economy.

You may end up relying on Wi-fi which is freely available.

Get hold of a SIM card when you’re over there as you can see the costs of using the Three UK sim over there are like something from 20 years ago.
