Lack of internet connection on 4G making me want to switch

Gingerland

I've been considering switching from Three for over a year now because of the lack of Internet access in a few areas that I visit regularly. I've just got back from a weeks holiday in Keswick and have been extremely frustrated with the lack of Internet, even though I have had a consistent 3+ bars of 4G signal. Most of the time no Internet access at all, but then the odd 10 second burst, having to refresh the page several times for it half complete. Similar happens in Lincoln, where I also regularly visit. Does anyone have a similar experience? If the merger with Vodafone solves this, then I would be happy, but there is no indication of timescale on this and if it would indeed improve my experience. EE is looking very inviting at the moment.

Hi @Gingerland,

Sorry to hear about the disruption this caused during your trip. We're very limited in what we can say about the merger still, but we'll share news as soon as we can. The current statements are available here: https://www.three.co.uk/merger

I can't say too much on the subject but as per the statement on the linked page: "Once the transaction completes, we will be building one of Europe's leading 5G networks. This means faster speeds, wider coverage, and more reliable connections."

Thanks,
Jonathan

Thanks for your reply Jonathan.

I've renewed my contract with Three, but for a much reduced cost, which allowed me to get a second eSIM from another reseller with another network. So hopefully I will be covered in the future.

Thanks for your reply Paddiewack. I know what you mean about the first part of your reply, I'm normally the same and I am somewhat regretting the title of my post. I would normally class myself as on the optimistic side of realist. My mini "rant" was just out of frustration I'm afraid, having just got back from a week's holiday and was basically unable to catch up on what I needed whilst having my pint at night. (WiFi in Keswick pubs is diabolical, btw). It's fine now though, back home on my 500mbps fibre. All's well.

No worries mate. Sometimes a rant does us all a power of good.

All the best.

I’m always sceptical of people who come on here and wave the I want to leave flag but in your case I’ll make an exception. I had the self same experience around four months ago just before we moved. Myself and customer support both came to the conclusion that it was network congestion caused by the 3G switch off and unless and until capacity was increased they bags would stay the same. As I mentioned earlier we completed our planned move to the Reading area and things couldn’t be more different with a peak download on the outskirts of town of just over 1.4 gbps. My advice to you is to check the Three status page for any issues and failing that ask tech support when capacity will increase. Call them on 333 option 1 option 4 option 3. Failing that call Pickfords

( That’s a joke)
