Voice Calls Breaking Up

UUT
Fledgling

Voice calls are breaking up at home, it is affecting my wifes calls as well. We have both been with 3 for quite a number of years, but over the last 6 to 8 weeks we can't make or receive calls at home without the call breaking up. It is fine elsewhere, it is a pain in the rump as we have parents in hospital and can't talk to them when either in the house or close by. I will not be renewing my contract with 3 as support is rubbish and just standard replys of there are no works or issues in your area when they can be bothered to reply.

To double check I’d advise you to go onto the Three status page to look for any issues in your area.Failing that I can recommend WiFi calling. My property is quite rural and I would have the same issues as you if I didn’t use it. If you have  home broadband then connect your phones to it and your problems will be solved. You can make and receive calls;text or go online. Problem solved!

Thanks for the reply, this happens with wifi calling switched on or off, my phone is connected to swaps from 4G to 5G, so not sure if this could affect it. It started off with just my phone but the issue now affect my wife's phone as well.

Most mobile phones these days show on the status bar, and/or pull down menu and/or locked screen/screen saver when the Wifi calling has "kicked in" and therefore replacing cellular "calls" function. This only kicks in if the signal strength reaches a certain threshold (and that depends on the handset not the network).
So if you are just seeing "3" but not "3 Wifi callling" or similar means that your phone is still relying on the cellular coverage.

Sometimes to "force" wifi calling, I enable aeroplane mode and then activate only the wifi and 8 out 10 times works fine. The other 2 means Three is having problems 🙂 The annoying bit is that I need to remember to disable aeroplane mode when there is no wifi around/leaving home.

Although I've seen here and other forums lots of people struggling with their wifi router and handset wifi settings! More recently someone here was only able to get wifi calling to work after "forget the wifi network" and then add it again and then toggling wifi calling option from the settings. There's a lot to fiddle with, but as Paddiewack said, if you have a reliable broadband and Three is not having any problems, calls over wifi work as a charm.

If it happens on WiFi then assuming your broadband is ok and your speed is above 2mbs per second then there should be no issues. WiFi calling completely replaces mobile calling. You could try as an experiment turning off mobile calling (thereby only using your phone over the internet) and see if that helps. Failing that even though there are two phones affected,I’d be looking at them as the culprits..
