Credit check on upgrade?

Hi all, have a contract thats due to finish in March next year. If I pay the early upgrade fee, do Three run a credit check? Tried a second line and failed so would have to upgrade but no point if check would be run!

Hi @Antg83,

I'm sorry to hear this. Last year we've moved to a new type of plan called Three Your Way. This is an FCA regulated product which includes a 0% APR loan for device plans. This does mean we need to run credit and affordability checks with upgrades now.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Been with 3 for 15 years and never had a problem upgrading. I'm earning over double what I earned when I first became a customer but now I've failed a credit check for an upgrade. Terrible service and looks like I'll be leaving for another network

They ain't worth the time of day anymore you'll do better to leave them as I did, they just ain't worth wasting your time and loyalty with, they won't ever value you.

I've just tried to upgrade and failed the credit, I did the live chat and I've never been asked so many questions, being a loyal customer who has been with them for years and paid on time, obviously makes no difference.

I been with 3 for around 12-15 years never missed a payment but with this new system failed a credit check so they will try give you a sim only plan so you can either go sim only cheap as possible and buy a phone from someone like ioutlet very cheap refurbish ones or new i know cause i bought apples watch 8 for £100 or just leave 3 and go to company like 02 as they dont mess you around im sure 3G will lose a lot of business and customers or actually go look at Tesco they do some very good deals

I have exactly the same experience ,my contract is end in few day and they refuse give me contact with phone because my credit check score was no good. I was with 3 for 7 years and I never had that bad experience like now .They said I can upgrade just SIM and check again in 90 day which is nothing change in 90 days because I don't have loan credit cards ,no mortgage .I have another phone with them and end next year and I think that will be end with 3 forever. I thought I'd just me but reading all that comments I realised I'm not my own ,I'm not surprised lots of people don't want to this company anymore and three loose lots of customers

They will lose our big time, I've already left to be with o2 after giving them 9 months to resolve things with me, even gave ceo department 4 chances, so I feel alot happier since leaving, 3 became an awful network they lost their customer focus and don't cause them at all, awful experience and glad it's over to be honest.

I also found this strange, when I had to renew my contract. I was told to call as my application was pending. Upon calling I was told to send through my 1 month bank statement, this was scary especially due to the level of fraud going on this days. I am still awaiting their update, hopefully its going to sort itself out, but slightly worried if people have been customers for much longer than i am and they are being refused!

I found a bug in their booking system, there's an input missing for your annual income. When you don't enter one, it fails the credit check, but there wasn't an input for me to enter into when I tried again. Do you remember filling in yours on the application? I posted my findings here but it's not been picked up yet: https://community.three.co.uk/t5/Account-and-services/Error-with-the-application-form-causing-failed...

I have an excellent credit rating, been a customer for years and years, tried to get a new iPhone upgrade for £41 a month and was refused! Can't understand it! It's for pennies. I'm going to try other suppliers and leave Three if I don't hear back from their appeals email address soon.
