New account verification method from three support

Hi,

I got a call from Three and staff on other side ask me to verify my account. I provide my details and then she said I will send a 4 digit code to your mobile. This was something new for me. When I ask that why to provide code sent on my phone then she mentioned that we have a new system in place to verify account. I declined to verify it this way.

My question is, is this something legit or a new way to scam people?

The verification code is 4 digits but always be wary with calls out of the blue. As sc1999 says all Three numbers start 03. Could be worth calling customer service on 333 just to check it was them that called you as they’ll have a record of the call. You’ll be sent a four digit code before you’re put through.

What was the number, Three's numbers start 03? Don't give exact details but what info did you give? If it was things like account numbers, passwords, CVV numbers then you have been had and need to tell you bank.  Most verification codes are 6 digits but I cannot remember what 3 uses.
