Is it true I have to contact 3 when my contract is up otherwise I get charged the same as if I’m paying for the device still?

Hello, Chris.

It depends on the type of contract you have. Older plans didn't have a cost for the device. The device was provided as part of the agreed line rental price. On those plans, there is only 1 charge, and when the minimum term is reached, if you don't change the plan, the cost will remain the same and you'd continue to be charged. You'd normally be notified ahead of time.

The newer types of plan include a line renal charge, and a separate device finance charge. This works more like a loan, and when the minimum term is reached, the final payment is taken and the device finance will automatically end, leaving only the line rental monthly payment. Since the costs were split from the beginning, the line rental that continues on is less than what an older plan would have been.

Pete.
