Spoofing my number

How do I report spoofing of my number ? Is there a link to save having to phone customer services ?

I have had several people call me and ask who I am as I’d called them .

i think it relates to an attempt to scam me a few weeks ago . I’ve reported everything to Action fraud , but need to know what can be done .  Is it necessary to change my number ??

I had this experience too. Last week, a gentleman asked me why I phoned him and today a lady asked the same question. I don't even know them and I never phone them. How can my number phone them without I know it. There is no way anyone use my phone.

This is really alarming as data security is not safe anymore.

It could be that the people calling you are the ones attempting to gather data from you on those calls. We'd recommend not answering calls from numbers you don't recognise, this helps limit interactions with potential scammers.

There's no way to know for sure if the people calling you actually received calls from you, you can report this issue to the support team, they might recommend changing the phone number.

Pete.

Hi David,

I'm really sorry to hear that you've been spoofed. Generally this is random, as you've mentioned that the callers don't know who you are, I expect this is the case here as the scammers aren't actually impersonating you or a business you're associated with? Mostly the scammers are just picking a UK phone number to try and make their calls seem more legitimate to the people they're calling.

This doesn't actually happen over the network, they use software to present a fake caller ID, and this doesn't grant them any access to your actual Three account or data. Mostly the activity only happens for a short time, then the scammers will move to impersonating a different number. If you would like to be assigned a new phone number, then customer services can do this for you though.

You've 100% done the right thing in reporting this to Action Fraud, I'd recommend to take further advice from them.

Thanks,
Jonathan
