Poor Coverage. 4G - 5G

Have had for a while very slow internet and was told by 3 that it was because had 4G phone. If I got a %G one it would be better. You know what i`m going to say ;-). Bought a % G phone and is no better. Turns out my area hasn`t got 5 G coverage. $G should be still good enough but get download speeds of just 26KB sometimes. Yes that`s KB`s not MB`s. Still contract up for renewal next year so will have a look around. I thought 3 would have checked coverage of 5G in my area before recommending buying a 5G phone. Silly me

Hi there.

Welcome to the Three Community.

While having a 5G connection us definitely better than 4G, your 4G connection should still be plenty fast for most things. Based on the speeds you described, it sounds like there might be an issue locally that's causing the slow down for you.

It might be worth having a look at the service status page to see if there's any issues that have been logged. If so, the issue could be temporary and you could see better speeds once it's resolved.

Pete.

Just put your postcode into their NETWORK COVERAGE page.

Didn't you bother to check before you switched.

When you phone 3 and they say it`s because only have 4G phone is problem and they say if had 5G it would be better. I assumed they knew the coverage in my area to say that. If they said there was no 5g in my arae then  that would have been better. That said and done, getting such slow internet in modern day shouldn`t happen. I suppose trusting 3 was my fault and should have looked into it myself, with the coverage checker. Lesson learnt for me
