Roaming not working

Good Afternoon,

been having issues with my roaming, last month I was in Poland it work just fine I am in holiday in France and I can see is connecting to the roaming shows 4G but I cannot connect to the server. I ready restart the phone 6 time, i ready did the network restart like 5 times. I need my phone for GPS.

Hi @Shoaib,

I'll give you all the recommendations for things you can try before getting in touch.

  • Check Roaming or Data Roaming is enabled in your settings.
  • Try rebooting your phone, sometimes switching it off and on again will refresh the connection.
  • Pop your phone on airplane/flight mode for a minute then switch this back off again.
  • Check your My3 to see what spend limit you have, if this is £0 or you've reached the limit this may be stopping your from connecting.
  • If all else fails, check for network/carrier selection in your settings. This is usually on automatic, but if you use manual you can check if any other local networks do give you service. (If you change this setting make sure to put it back to automatic when you travel to another destination, or back to the UK).

At this point if you're no further forwards customer services can check that Roaming is active, and that your Data Roaming Limit, or Credit Limit aren't causing the issue, or check for any other technical issues.

Same problem here, for the past 2 or 3 years, whenever I go outside the UK roaming does not work. All the basic stuff in check like the spending cap, roaming activation on iPhone, mobile data on. They never fix this. This is a complete deal breaker.

Hi @Marquesuk,

It sounds like you've covered all the basics. I'd also suggest to double check your Network/Carrier Selection just to make sure this is on "Automatic", it's unlikely but if this was left on manual connection to Three UK your phone wouldn't try to find a roaming connection.

Most likely roaming or a related service isn't active on your account itself. I'd recommend to get this double checked with customer services, and if they can't directly find the cause they should be able to escalate this to the Tech team.

I went through the same nightmare when I travelled in Apr/May...hours on the phone with Three and ended up stranded with no data and couldn't even get a taxi. I had to walk 15 miles back to my hotel. Three doesn't seem to comprehend how critical a working phone is when traveling. They kept apologizing which really just infuriated me and I never get angry about anything. BOTTOM LINE: What I on my OWN discovered and fixed was the "SPEND CAP" & "USAGE CAP" needed to be set to "unlimited" because their stupid system still does regular charges, then fixes it on billing. You can adjust your own spend cap, but they have to adjust the usage cap. Then I reset my network and it worked.

I have the same issue. Currently in Netherlands and stuck to using wifi. No signal to call 3 and no means to talk to an advisor even with wifi. Utter scam. My roaming is turned on on my phone. I have purchased the add on. It says in my account roaming not activated. How the heck do I activate it? They said it would happen automatically and it hasn’t.

Turk operater added..paid the roaming pass data roaming on. Waste of time as above couldn't use in medical emergency. Can't even ring 3 absolute joke. If your reading this and go abroad change provider. Waste of time and money. But potentially put people at risk for not able to access data.

Same problem here,  we both have three.  Works perfectly on Android but not iphone

Three is the worst network when you go abroad the data never works, I’ve had this issue for years and they just tell you to activate go roaming even when it’s on. 

if I was you just get a data eSim for when you travel

I got the same problem. Bought three data pass and they do not even work. The help team is useless.

I bought 3 go roam EU passes, and they don't even WORK... I'm stranded now with no data abroad in croatia, all the signs in Croatian. Complete nightmare. Sat in a call for 2 hours during my holiday and they tell me they cant solve it for 72 hours, and that wasn't even a certainty either, they MAY fix it within 72 hours. Utterly ridiculous, I'll have to goto a local shop and get a simcard for the rest of the trip. Such a hassle.
