Trying to pay off my device in full and the process goes to my banking app for approval where I approve the payment and it says it succeeded but then three says that the payment could not be made, I tried paying a smaller lump to see if that was the problem but that payment also failed. Is this a problem with three? do they just want me to phone to sell me stuff so the payment page is a red herring and will never work?

Oh that's strange, it sounds like you're at the very last step, and normally after that bank authorisation succeeds, the payment is done. I'm not sure what would be stopping that.
Have you tried contacting the support team to see if they are able to see anything on the account that might explain it? Or even if they are able to process the payment for you from there? If you'd like to do that, you can reach them on 0333 338 1031 and just let them know you'd like to pay off your device loan.
