Intermittent connection issues loading/changing site- secure connection failed/site can't be reached

Is anyone else occasionally getting a 'connection down' error from Chrome (or 'Secure Connection Failed' from Firefox) when changing page - if I hit refresh it works fine. At first I wondered if it was the site I was using but have noticed it on multiple different major websites over the past couple of months and not noticed it from other locations where I don't use Three Broadband so does seem to be related to the router/connection (this is via wired Ethernet too, so not a WiFi problem).  I've tried changing DNS server in case that helps but no difference.

It mainly seems to happen when trying to first load a site or (annoyingly) at checkout when a different site is being loaded as part of the checkout process.  It certainly doesn't happen everytime but does happen with reasonable frequency.  I've also noticed I often get it when trying to pull/push from/to Github too and have to do so a number of times for it to work (browsing the Github website works fine).

I'm using a NR5103E with Firmware Version V1.00(ACBJ.0)b14 - I tried rebooting it but to no effect.

Apart from Chrome and Firefox being different browsers, are you using the same add-ons and similar settings? That may explain things otherwise it is just ultimately unusual...

Yeah as far as I can tell things are pretty much the same - Ublock Origin on both browsers, only extra on Chrome is the Lastpass extension.  While I dont think the strange chromefailing/firefoxworking is prob an avenue worth exploring (as Jonathan says - lots of red herrings) - and maybe Chrome was having its own fit.  The installer itself basically fails every single time try to update unless visited the website beforehand.

That being said, I wouldnt want to remove it and reinstall fresh here, as I have around 700gb of game data with the modules I own etc....Though I can replicate the SSL error every time on running the DCS Updater if haven't launched the webpage for so long (even if no update is available)

However I suspect if someone downloaded just the small 12mb installer, waited a while after closing the page (an hour maybe to be sure) then I suspect the installer wont work either and be able to be replicate each time (I could potentially try this on another machine that doesnt have DCS installed) - if its theoretically a good non web browser way to reproduce the error

I would not expect Lastpass to cause the difference in theory however uBlock Origin would not act entirely the same on Chrome as it would on Firefox... Excluding that, it does seem to be a Chrome/Firefox issue however I would not expect miracles if you did start both with all add-ons disabled but that is not the main issue here

Unfortunately I do not have a Windows machine to use for testing (Well... A glorified laptop CPU in a PC shell running Windows 8.1 will struggle immensely) and everything gaming that I can do is not through my PC - Excluding initial issues with the 3internet APN on the Nintendo Switch, there have not been significant issues since switching to the other Three APNs (Mostly three.co.uk, now ID)

Maybe it would be beneficial for one of the Three staff to download DCS World as it is clearly doing something that is reliably triggering errors

Thanks for the reminder.  So before, when I downloaded the installer, I did press continue and it started downloading fine. That will have likely been because I had just left the actual website of course, so just how it works for me on my game PC.  So I kept the installer, and uninstalled the game installer.  I then hopped back to that PC and sure enough, on a clean install after the previous above picture, the same SSL socket error on loading followed by DCS's own log file, like my previous errors I've been able to replicate where it will not kick in.  Of course other people have similar ways to replicate the errors with git pulls too, but its handy to have a known other app that reliably fails that isnt a webpage.

I have downloaded the DCS installer and remoted to my old HTPC, will give it a while then try and run the next stage to see if works, as page has been opened recently so would work - in case useful for any testing point of view to replicate non web browser issues

It's been pretty quiet on here with official updates, last post from @JonathanB was over a month ago.

Would be nice to get some official update on the matter, even if it's "we haven't done anything yet".

Makes it look less like the subject is being ignored.

Hi @AkiTaiyo,

I appreciate your frustration, we're still pursuing these issues, but the info I'm passed is very high level, and there's not really much I can say until we either; confirm a solution, have other tests or settings to check out with you all, or need to arrange more traces.

There's work going on to analyse data from a number of live traces we arranged. It's been passed between a few different specialist areas, so I can only surmise there's been some red herrings with establishing what is actually causing the root issue, but I'm hopeful we're getting closer to a solution.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I recently got Three 5G BB installed and have experienced this "Secure Connection Failed" screen quite a few times randomly. I guess this issue has never been solved judging by how old this thread is. I have a ZTE MC888 hub.

Any updates on why this may be happening?

This thread does not show up in the most recent so there is a good chance many people are unaware that this is a significant issue.

If you need a workaround for this issue, a VPN or Cloudflare's WARP will do the job

For myself, I am using Cloudflare's WARP and had used it on Three without issues but now I have gone with iD Mobile (Three wearing a trenchcoat) because it ended up being cheaper

Yes unfortunately its definitely still a huge issue and mostly seeing tumbleweed by way of updates.  A lot will put the issue down to their phones or tablets etc playing up.  For connection errors some browsers will auto retry and correct itself etc but it causes many issues more than just the browsers, like apps/games updating, multiplayer connection problems, files not completing.  I dont get how Three engineers are relying on people in here doing the testing when it must be fairly easy to replicate themselves considering how it happens several times per hour in my browser etc across all devices
