Intermittent connection issues loading/changing site- secure connection failed/site can't be reached

Is anyone else occasionally getting a 'connection down' error from Chrome (or 'Secure Connection Failed' from Firefox) when changing page - if I hit refresh it works fine. At first I wondered if it was the site I was using but have noticed it on multiple different major websites over the past couple of months and not noticed it from other locations where I don't use Three Broadband so does seem to be related to the router/connection (this is via wired Ethernet too, so not a WiFi problem).  I've tried changing DNS server in case that helps but no difference.

It mainly seems to happen when trying to first load a site or (annoyingly) at checkout when a different site is being loaded as part of the checkout process.  It certainly doesn't happen everytime but does happen with reasonable frequency.  I've also noticed I often get it when trying to pull/push from/to Github too and have to do so a number of times for it to work (browsing the Github website works fine).

I'm using a NR5103E with Firmware Version V1.00(ACBJ.0)b14 - I tried rebooting it but to no effect.

Regular

Running a few more tests today, I've made a quick script to basically do what I did above but a hundred times, and it's showing SSL connections up to about 30% of the time.

Results from that script:

  • en.wikipedia.org: 25-29% failure rate (25, 27, 29, 25 from multiple tests)
  • api.tuyaeu.com: 14% failure rate
  • www.google.com: 0% failure rate
  • duckduckgo.com: 1% failure rate
  • www.github.com: 2% failure rate
  • royalmail.com: 19% failure rate

Fledgling

I've been having these issues since I got the 5g home broadband summer 2023. I wish I cancelled there and then.

As people have been saying, the problem has gotten far far worse recently.

Not sure if there is any point in example websites. In my experience, no website is safe whatsoever.

How you haven't been able to sort this out by now is completely baffling. I will never as much as touch a Three product for the rest of my life.

Hi everyone,

I've just sent everyone a PM who has posted on the thread, and to which their Community account links back to a Three account. If I've missed anyone who is still actively with Three, please let me know.

I'm requesting one or more recent examples of when you've encountered the SSL errors, and the location you encountered them from. Please get back to me when you can.

To view your private messages on the community, click on your avatar image in the top right of any community page, then "Messages".

Thanks,
Jonathan

I may not be with Three formally yet I can still use the same APNs as the other Three MVNOs - As far as I am concerned, all of them are affected by the same issue

If you have any connections or contacts that can reach the other MVNOs, please do what you can to alert them of this issue as they might be able to help and, at the very least, they should be able to reach more people suffering from these issues

If you would like a list of various websites mentioned in this thread which often trigger the PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR, let us know as they are buried within the 44 pages however, the issue is not limited to just those websites

Hopefully there will be a solution found sooner rather than never

Thank you for your reply and hopefully there will be more regular updates at least once a week to mention what is happening - Your last response is on Page 42 but that was Three weeks ago

Still failing randomly on some sites here.  Noticed it on Wikipedia yesterday.  On Mozilla Firefox on Android there's no mention of the PR end of file error, it just seems to stubbornly not load the page with a 'Try Again' error.

Just a check-in

No changes however yesterday was quite bad for a random test - Websites would fail then work, fail then work, on and off for several hours...

How bad was bad? If I had that level of website failures on my first day of switching to Three, I would have left immediately with no regrets and there would have been no possibility of staying even with a negotiation

Three, consider yourselves lucky that this widespread problem can, and does, vary in severity at random

Interesting, I also experienced increased failures on sites I visit frequently the last couple days.
