No 5G reception on the new Three 5G hub NR5103e

Fledgling

Just purchased  the Three Home Broadband and have been supplied with the new router Zyxel NR5301e with firmware v1.00 (ACBJ.000b10

However it will not connect to 5G, looking on other forums this seems to be widespread, not very good releasing a new router that does not work on their network!

Does Three ever update their firmware on supplied routers? I was going to ring the Indian HQ for guidance but thought better of it.

Guys - the Zyxel NR5301e is unlocked to any network meaning you can use any sim card in there - I get excellent 5g network with EE in my house so I replaced the 3 sim with EE and it works like a charm 😉

Same case here. 5G working fine in my Samsung mobile phone but not connect to 5G for my NR5103E with Firmware :V1.00(ACBJ.0)b12.

It's my first day I join 3 !!

I’m the same as above. Tries to connect on 5G every 30 seconds or so, but can’t and so stuck usin 4G. Not Sim and signal strong. B12 firmware. Support have no idea other than endless reboots.

It's AWFUL and extremely frustrating. Nobody knows what's going on or wants to take ownership of the issue. I'm sick and tired of spending over an hour on the phone every time I speak to their 2nd line tech support, who just seem to go around in circles. ABYSMAL!!!

It seems I'm not the only one whose Zyxel NR5103E router will not connect to 5G. Three told me there's an issue on the mast and they're working on it.

However, that doesn't make any sense, as that would affect the old router as well, which connects to 5G just fine. I can also see they've been telling customers the same thing for months now.

What is going on?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for flagging up these issues with connecting to 5G. I'm happy to confirm that we've got a firmware update in the testing phases for the Zyxel NR5103E router. We're spending some time making sure it fully addresses these issues, and then we'll be rolling it out to everyone soon.

Just signed up here and glad to see this reply!

Been having issues for a few days getting my NR5103E to establish a 5G connection even though my iPhone 13 Pro Max (also on Three) gets a very good 5G signal in the same spot (and surrounding area) and achieves much faster download and upload speeds compared to when the same Three sim is used in the NR5103E. Also tried my Smarty sim and the result was the same, router just fails to achieve a 5G connection and falls back to LTE-A, and unfortunately my LTE-A speeds are not on the amazing side.

Firmware is on the latest/current b10 version which supposedly fixed 5G previously but I still cant get 5G like many others above.

I fit a Poynting XPOL-1-5G-V2 4x4 MIMO external antenna yesterday in hope that it would help but still unable to connect to 5G, seems to establish NR5G-NSA then drops right back to LTE-A after seconds (its never shows any 5G signal bars, this also happened before the external antenna).

I was about to give up so its good to see that a new firmware update, which sounds like its going to resolve this issue, is currently being tested before release 🙂

Understandably time is needed to test before going into production, but do you have a rough ETA for this new firmware as this issue is a bit of a deal breaker?

Many thanks for the update!

Hi @crypt0ninja,

Sorry no ETA yet, but I'm chasing a further update. Will let you and everyone here know as soon as I can.

Thanks,
JonathanB

Thanks @JonathanB, would be great if you could obtain some sort of ETA to give our patience a break lol

I spoke to another NR5103E user today who advised that they had the same issue with a b10 supplied NR5103E, and then received a replacement that when received was on b8 which shortly after updated to b10 and has been working fine with 5G since so how confident are you guys that this firmware is going to resolve this issue for b10 users that currently cannot get a 5G connection? this bit of info has put me in doubt, unless you can provide us with some inside info from the testers to clarify this?

Many thanks
