Sim only

Elisha1
Fledgling

Three emailed me today to say my contract (including a device), ends on 02/01/25, and prompted me to upgrade/start a new contract. I have followed the process and decided to go sim only for £22 a month. My question is, does this now mean that I have to pay this month of my existing contract (£80 a month), and then also my new sim only plan (£22 a month)? Obviously I will continue to just use my existing contract until it’s finished. Three isn’t very clear about this online and I am reluctant to pay for 2 services when it was them that recommended I ‘upgrade’! Thank you in advance

Hello, Elisha.

It's not entirely clear what's been done on the account, as upgrade and new contract typically mean different things.

If you upgraded, you'd have the same phone number, but your plan would change to whatever deal you accepted, and you'd simply move onto paying for the new amount once your last bill at the old amount has been collected. It's a smooth transition and doesn't involve making any additional payments.

If you took a new contract out, this would typically mean you have 2 contracts going concurrently, and this would mean you have two charges to pay, one for the old one, one for the new one. There would be a new SIM with a new phone number on it too.

If you're not sure which of these two scenarios fits what you processed best, I'd recommend checking in with the support team to get them to confirm what changes were actually made.

Pete.
