I have been a Three customer for 12 years. I prefer to use 'pay as you go' monthly top ups, I topped up £10-15 a month depending on how much data I needed. One of the main points for me to stay with Three was their EU roaming policy and cheap international calls.
Three had some major technical changes recently, I had to re-register online. This is absolutely fine, the changes in general were needed. The issue is I have not been able to top up my account for a whole week now. I tried web top up and calls several times. In the process £10 mysteriously disappeared from my account. Every time I logged in again, it was £2 less, despite I only called the Three top up number.
After a frustrating week like this I popped into a Three store to talk to someone in person and find out what is going on, why I am unable to use my phone and where has my money disappeared. I also mentioned that I have been a Three customer for 12 years. The employee was polite, but the only thing he was able to tell me is that they know about the issue but have no idea when it might be solved. I thought this is rather poor and said if we can't figure out something on the spot, or can't give me a deadline, I will leave Three and go to another service provider. There was nothing else he could say, so I have purchased my new sim card at a different provider. As a bonus it is also cheaper with more data.
Apparently Three is successful enough to allow their loyal customers to leave just like that.

I know, they don't seem to care these days! Their moto used to be "When stuff sucks, make it right"
Do you remember their advert? The purple puppet?
They also had "Feel at home" plans before free EU roaming Regulations were passed into law and the 3-2-1 (3p calls, 2p SMS & 1p per MB data) pricing plans. We seem to be paying a lot more, for a lot less!
BTW have you tried Smarty (owned by Three and use Three network). They have some good deals on this time of year and have rolling month by month plans.
