Is 5G worth the extra money?

I'm renewing my phone contract is a couple of months and am wondering whether to carry on with 4G or whether 5G is actually worth paying extra for?

I get 50-80 meg at home on 4g. I can't get 5g at home but in my local Asda's cark park I get 300+. If I had 5g available and it was truly unlimited then I may consider dumping BT.

You don't pay any extra for 5g.... But only issue is that it's not currently in alot of areas so may be worth checking your areas first and if it isn't in you're area then look into when they expect it to be ready in your area.....

My area used to be really good for signal and since 3 done alot of signal changes I rearly even get 4g on my area anymore

Seems to be a common thread that 3's network upgrades slow, rather than speed up, the network.

Im due a upgrade just now , Although its my Daughters Phone I just pay the monthly Contract , I've been with Three 4 yrs now and Always got the IPhone SE  then the IPhone SE 2020 but she complains its on 3G so this time I'm thinking of the Iphone 11 as it has 4G but I've been told the only difference  really between the I phone 11 & 12 is 5 G . But with 5G not rolled out everywhere and she only really uses it for Social Media and Pics and Videos , I just don't see the point in paying nearly £70 a month for the update I phone 12 or 13 Collections . As money is getting tight I want to stick to the amount i pay just now . So Im hoping  4G will work just as good as a 5G I phone . Going to phone Three and give them the "I've been a loyal Customer for 4 yrs " speach and see what they offer for a upgrade at a similar price .Fingers Crossed they give me a good deal as they usually are good at helping you out 😊

Suggest you look at all available options via price comparison sites or Moneysavingexpert, before you renew the contract. Most of the mobile operators (including Three) provide a 5G capable SIM along with the 5G data allowance at no extra cost. However, the faster 5G downloads are available only in the areas covered by 5G by each operator, otherwise your downloads will be on 4G speeds. Please check 5G coverage in your area before you decide on the contract from a particular operator.

Some operators like Three also have a WiFi calling feature which could be useful for calls where the phone signal is patchy and you have WiFi available.

what is the difference between 4g and 5g in terms of speed, is the difference significant or just a small increase in speeds

I am still on 4G I think and I feel it is fast enough. If 5G comes without any additional costs I might switch to it.

Sitting at my desk I get 80Mbps on 4G. Sitting in Asda Hereford cark park I can get 300+ on 5G. I do not need 80 meg, let alone 300 but maybe 5G will one day come to rural Herefordshire.

What’s your experience of 5G vs 4G? 5 isn’t yet available in my area but curious to know peoples current findings!
