Since the merger of Three and Vodafone on 31st May, I had noticed that my signal at home had gone from being a reasonable 4G to one or two bars of 3G only. I assumed this would only be a temporary occurrence and most likely due to the merger.
However, it persisted all through the summer and I never saw a 4G signal again. This also rendered the Sat Nav in my car useless too as it will not work without connection to the internet so, when leaving on a journey, I wasn’t able to use it until I drove into an area where I could pick up 4G.
I put up with this until mid August, hoping each day the engineering would be rectified and my 4G would return. It never did.
It became intolerable so I went on the Live Chat to see what was to be done. The Coverage Checker on the website said that 3G had been switched off in my postcode area but, as the attached screenshot from my phone shows, that was untrue.
The ‘agent’ led me the merry dance of going through all the settings and checks to try to get 4G back, then hit a brick wall so said they would transfer me to technical specialist or similar. They went through exactly the same rigmarole and eventually offered their conclusion - wait for it…. They suggested they could help me to close my contract!! They even offered to do this without it costing me money to do so! I informed them, as they were clearly ignorant of the fact, that I had been out of contract since October 2022! So, why would I be paying an exit fee anyway?? End of Chat.
I have now ported my number over to a provider that actually provides a service.
What really galled me though was being lied to about the situation - that 3G no longer existed when it clearly does. Also that there was no reported problem with 4G, yet it disappeared in June and never returned.
Despite being a Three Mobile customer for many, many years it only goes to show that, like almost everything these days, loyalty is deemed worthless.
The final irony is, when I joined Three years ago, it was to get away from the atrocious service I was getting from Vodafone! What goes around…., eh?
