"This phone number cannot be used for verification" (gmail account SMS verification)

Problem with Google verify new account / gmail.

Verify your account
You're almost done! We just need to verify your account before you can start using it.
ex: Phone number

How should we send you codes?
Text message (SMS)
Voice Call

I select SMS, I input my brand new Three+ phone number. 07886.......

I get this message:

"This phone number cannot be used for verification."

How can that be? I connected the new SIM from Three+ around 1.5 hours ago.

I know that I can receive SMS texts because I sent one to it from another phone earlier.

Please help a new Three+ customer.

Hi @ArtSund,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble verifying your Google account. I'm not familiar with how they would be determining whether a number is valid or not, but I've had a look at their Help Centre, and it looks like (assuming you're only linking this to one Google account) the number you've obtained could be a recycled one that may have been used by someone else in the past.

One option would be to contact customer services and ask for a number change. If this isn't a suitable solution, I'd suggest to check out the options on Google's help centre and community in case they can help you verify that this is a new number and only intended to be used with this one Google account you've mentioned.
