Can I cancel my subscription without a penalty charge due to consistently terrible broadband speeds?
I have a recently started 24 month contract for home broadband with Three on 4g which I was informed would work well when I moved to my new address a in February 2025 months. This is an unlimited contact using a wifi router. The download and upload speeds have been consistently terrible. There are two of us living at the address and between us we have two laptops and two mobile phones.
Facetime & Teams video calls: We have to take turns scheduling to use Facetime/Teams to make calls we need for work, and even with only that one activity using the wifi the connection is very slow, people we are speaking with complain of issues with our video freezing and the audio cutting in and out.
YouTube: We now are unable to watch any videos at all in HD and often times need to watch in 144p or 240p to avoid buffering issues if we are accessing YouTube on two devices. Even when only using YouTube on one device with no other activity using Wifi we are unable to watch videos in quality higher than 720p60.
Netflix: We now regularly have issues with buffering and low quality video when trying to watch Netflix.
I have done some research and BT can provide a Fibre fixed line broadband service with a Stay Fast Guarantee of 55mb/s for my address. It costs more, which isn't at all ideal as we are struggling financially as most people are these days with rising costs of services and food, BUT having decent wifi speeds now seems quite essential for everyday living and a fixed broadband line would, it seems, give us a better chance at a service fit for purpose service.
Are these speeds and limitations on wifi us deemed by others as terrible? Here are the results of a Internet Speed Test I just did at 01:47hrs. Latency 48ms & 10.88mb/s Download speed & 0.61mb/s Upload speed 0.61
