Which 5G Hub should I have?

SWalsh

I recently purchased the Three 5G Broadband expecting the device displayed on the adverts which outlines the capability for connecting up to 64 devices. When the Hub arrived I got something looking nothing like it. Upon looking on the Three website I saw that the hub device I have ZTE MC801A can only connect up to 32 devices.

Is someone able to explain this difference in device from the one one advertised please?

I live in County Durham, UK - if that has any impact on this...

They should have given you the new ZyXEL NR5103E 5G Router as far as I'm aware...the ZTE is the previous model used by Three, however 5G seems to be bugged for many of us running the NR5103E at the moment.

Once the NR5103E issues are resolved then it will for sure be the better hardware to have though.

Hi @Scoobysteve,

Firmware gets rolled out in batches, so not everyone will get it at exactly the same time, but it will be automatic, at least from a customer perspective. We've done some small scale tests, both internally and with an initial group of customers, and the results are looking good so far. I expect it won't be too long till everyone gets the new firmware.

I'm not sure if you've seen my reply in the other thread, but I've sent you a private message as I want to look into your case in more detail, as it might not be the same issue that other customers have reported.

Thanks,
JonathanB

Makes sense for them to do this tbh. Its a disappointment receiving the NR5103E and not being able to get 5G thats for sure lol and yes the ZTE will cope with speeds much higher than Three offer atm.

@JonathanB has confirmed over the last couple of days that an NR5103E firmware update is currently being tested and will be pushed out once they are comfortable it resolves the current issues, so hopefully that appears ASAP 🙂

Thanks for you response. I thought this may have been the case. So far it is working fine, but I have only connected my phone to trial it. I may get in contact with the call centre to see what they say.
I wonder if they have send out the ZTE MC801A because of the issues with the newer model. Fingers crossed they resolve the issues with the newer model for everyone soon.
