In the Wireless Access Device section where it displays a list of the WiFi and LAN connect devices you can edit the name of the device to make it more meanful. I have 15 WiFi connected devices and have successfully entered/edited the names of 13.
Unfortunately, 2 of the devices, which are the same as 6 of the above edited devices (Smart Sockets), have Host Name showing as '---', ie dashes. I can click the edit icon and change the name as with all the others, but when I click the icon to save the edit, it simply flashes and restores the '---' name. I have tried every name I can think of. I can click and edit any of the other identical devices.
It seems an unusual fault/bug and I wonder if anyone has a solution, because a device name of '---' is not really useful, especial if several devices have the same name.
I have asked in another post, still unanswered, what is the latest firmware for this router. Could anyone please let me know as it could be an old firmware issue.
Thanks for looking

Hello Pete, thanks for your reply. The devices are connected directly to the routers WiFi (not through a repeater) and they are on-line (if not on-line they do not appear in the Wireless Access Device List.
I can edit any of the existing named devices but the last 2 I have just show dashes '--' for the name and they will not change. They are the same devices as the ones already renamed in the list (smart plugs) I can click the edit button, enter the new meaningful text/name, click the edit to save, but it just reverts back to --. If I do the same with the others, the text is changed OK.
At the moment there are 26 devices on-line.
I wonder, if as you say, there is a limit to the number of devices/Mac IDs that the router has available to store names.
Could you please let me know what your Firmware version is to see if I have the same. Mine is BD_H3GUKMC888V1.0.0B02
All the best
Steve

Hello Tim
Unfortunately I have not found a solution and to be honest I am a bit disappointed with the 3 techies for not addressing this problem. Also, no-one has let me know what the current firmware is just in case it was out of date. As you will see there has not been any response to my post. Perhaps there are not many contributors.
If I ever get a solution I will let you know.
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for the fast response.
That is annoying, it seems such a basic but required feature for a router.
My software version is B15, I don't think it's ever updated since I had the device a year ago and it used to work fine.
I'll try the 3 techies myself and see if we can get this fixed.

Hello, SteveA.
That's a bit of an odd issue to have. Is it possible the router has a limit to how many custom names can be set? Try adding a custom name for another device that hasn't been edited yet and see if that works.
If it does, then it's likely not that. It might also be worth checking to see if the device you're trying to modify the name of is currently connected. The router might have a requirement for the device to be online before allowing the name to be updated.
The only other thing I can think of is if the plugs in question are connecting through a repeater or extender of some kind, this is something that prevents me from being able to update the names of my own devices on my own network.
Pete.

Hi Pete.
I have the same problem as Steve, its very annoying, can you please try to get it fixed or find a work around.
My software version is B15, I've have the router a year, I don't think its ever updated and the feature used to work fine, so why is it not now?
I have a total of 15 WiFi and 7 wired devices connected, I can edit some of the older ones, but not any new ones, just get the default --
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Tim.
