3G turn off

Dac
Fledgling

Very soon the 3G signal will be switched off by three. I am in an area that three's map says is excellent coverage indoor and outdoor for 4G ,but I get 1 bar and an unstable signal dropping in and out ( basically unusable internet ). I have tried to find out by contacting three and banging my head against a brick wall what will happen when the 3G network goes off , will they install a 4G or 5G cell on the dead 3G tower , Both are good for me  but alas I'm being left in the dark and starting to look at other carriers as Three are leaving me hanging and waiting for the last thread to break and drop me in the crap of an internet free world. Does anyone have a clue what they do when a 3G cell is decommissioned. Do Three upgrade their now vacant cell tower to a newer technology or leave the likes of me scurrying around looking for one of the other  networks that is going to offer some decent coverage to me?

No, it doesn't. Three switched off the 3G signal in my area (17/09/2024) without notifying me they were about to do this. When I spoke to CS to complain, they stated that my 4G signal would improve, but it hasn't. I used to get a 25Mbs data connection prior to switch off but that has been reduced by less than half of that to 12Mbs. Care to explain that one Three?

Hello, Dac.

In a lot of cases, the spectrum that is made available after 3G is switched off is used by the 4G network in order to strengthen the 4G coverage. This can take a few weeks to implement, but most users should generally see improvements after each area has gone through the process.

Pete.
