How do you block spam SMS messages which don’t contain a contact number iPhone?

I receive several messages daily from gambling sites which I’ve never used these messages. Don’t contain contact numbers so you can’t block or report them. Any suggestions?o

Hello there.

Welcome to the Three Community.

On phones that support Blocking and Reporting of messages, the option is still there to report and block sources that come up with a name rather than a number.

If your phone doesn't have that capability, I'm unsure what else would stop the services from messaging you except for to contact them somehow and request you be removed from their database.

Pete.

Hey @Fatlad

Sadly there's nothing further we can suggest from our end, but here is some links you may find useful: Apple support - Report spam messages and Google support - Report spam messages

Thanks, Jade.

When you use that option you get this reply,

From your service provider: Thanks for reporting your spam text. Please reply to this message with the spam sender's number or sender ID as shown on your message, so we can look into this for you.

It should be mandatory that all SMS messages must contain a number or some form of contact id to enable service provider to look in to and block these spam messages?

Why can’t 3 as the service provider prevent messaging from spammers not supplying a number? 3 are the ones with the technical nous not us poor consumers.

Hello there.

As network, Three are involved in the process of discovering and verifying sources of dangerous scams alongside the other major networks. Suspected scam/spam messages can be reported by forwarding the message in question to the number 7726 in a text message. This will help the networks figure out ways of stopping certain scams.

It isn't possible for the network to simply block block messages on it's own though. Doing so would risk blocking messages that are not supposed to be blocked, and would likely require the network to have access to read the messages them selves, a bit of a privacy issue. Something I don't think most users would be happy to accept.

Pete.
